The Roberts/Kilby Group specializes in meeting the investment needs of families, trusts, non-profit entities and small businesses, with a particular emphasis on developing individualized, income-oriented investment strategies in retirement accounts.
Based in Greensboro, North Carolina, the current organization is the successor to a wealth management and investment practice that stretches back to 1980. The Roberts/Kilby Group oversees assets in excess of $130 million.
John R. Roberts, First Vice President-Wealth Management – John, the group’s senior member, joined Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor in 1980. He came to Merrill after spending seven years as a writer and editor at various newspapers. His last position was editing the business page of the old Greensboro Daily News. A native of Southern Illinois, John enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating from high school in 1967 and served 13 months in Vietnam. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1973 with a degree in journalism.
John and his wife, Elaine, are members of Christ United Methodist Church. They were formerly members of First Moravian Church, where John served on the Board of Trustees. John has also served as a member of the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Board of Commissioners, the Noise Abatement Commission at Piedmont Triad International Airport, The Wesleyan Commission at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the Greensboro Crime Commission, and the Triad Refugee Interfaith Program, which was instrumental in finding new homes for Montagnard refugees from Vietnam in the Triad. John and Elaine have two adult children and reside in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Justin P. Kilby, Financial Advisor – Justin joined Merrill Lynch after spending 6 years in the supply chain/ logistics field, most recently with Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation. A native of Culpeper, Virginia, Justin graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2003 with a degree in Business Administration. While there Justin played varsity soccer and was an active member of Chi Phi fraternity, serving for two years as social chairman. In 2008, Justin received a Masters of Business Administration from Elon University. Justin is also a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Greensboro. Justin and his wife Jaime reside in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and welcomed their first child in 2011.
Susan V. Davis, Client Associate - Susan has worked for Merrill Lynch as a Client Associate for 35 years, handling most administrative matters. She is married with three adult children. She and her husband, Keith reside in Gibsonville, North Carolina.
